Growing up, I was always playing sports with my older brother and his friends. My dad was his coach for most sports so you could always find me riding along for practice. Whether it was playing in the baseball scrimmages or playing "Kick the Can" on a Friday after school, I was always trying to keep up with the boys. As I got older I was able to explore my own sports and I literally tried them all, sometimes playing 2 sports in a season. I ended up (last minute as always) choosing to play Field Hockey in college and it was a great decision. When I started my college career I felt out of place and did not get much playing time. After a mindset shift and some humbling lessons, I started to turn my experience around. By my senior year, I was a 2nd-year captain and 2 time All- CAA second-team athlete. Through hard work, tough conversations, and perseverance, I started every game and became a trusted leader on the team.
After finishing college I was stuck questioning my identity as an athlete. My field hockey career had ended and I was left trying to decide what was next for me. After working out multiple times a day for 4 years, taking a break wasn't an option. I felt stuck and unmotivated doing the typical gym-bro splits while secluded at the gym. When I found Crossfit it was like a breath of fresh air. It gave me the challenge of learning new movements while perfecting those that I already knew. It perfectly blended my experience in the weight room with brand-new exercises. Since I started, I have grown to love the community and meaning behind CrossFit and the competition every class presents. There is nothing better than a sweaty fist bump celebrating the daunting workout you accomplished.
"If you don't use it, you lose it" is a saying my great-grandmother used to say. She lived to be 96 years old. Helping athletes to create healthy habits that balance their lives is my top goal. There is no doubt that we will never have an off day or a day full of fun, that is how we create memories, but showing up to improve our overall health is also a key piece to the puzzle. There may be days in the gym when we are super motivated or days we are not performing our bests but the 1st accomplishment is making it in the door and showing up for yourself. Whether is it physical or mental, the goal is to get 1% better every day. I am a GIRL POWER advocate that we females need to appreciate what our bodies are capable of doing and not back down because of the uncertainty of a gym. No matter your gender, age, or experience level, there is always a benefit of exercise and I will do my best to make it the most beneficial workout for where you are in your journey!
We understand how intimidating it can be to get started on a new fitness journey. But don't worry! We were all once the "new person." It's a scary thing- we get it. But at WCF, we foster a community that is inclusive, compassionate, and empowering. You will never feel alone.
All of our trainers have (at least) an up-to-date CrossFit Level 1 Certificate. We require every coach to go through our thorough on-boarding program and demonstrate proficiency in their craft before ever taking the floor.
We believe in supporting people who are ready to take action and give them everything they need to crush their goals. It's why our members keep coming back for more.
